YI Erida Drone The Karma Killer

Erida Drone and the all new Yi 4k+ Action Camera

After the disaster that GoPro had last year in having to recall the Karma Drone, as well as the disappointment of the lack of new features in the Go Pro Hero 5, has the company exposed themselves to be shot down by another action camera and drone maker?

I am a great supporter of GOPRO , but I am feeling rather underwhelmed with where the company is going, and I personally cannot see how they can continue to be the leading company for action cameras, there is simply to much competition out there.

Are Yi about to push GOPRO over the Cliff?

One company that has caught my eye recently is a Chinese based company called Yi.

18 months ago they released the Yi 4k action camera and this product is what made people stand up and listen to where this manufacturer maybe was heading. Firstly the spec was better than a GOPRO Hero 4 black edition, but also it was 35% cheaper.

I think the camera sold well but I wasn’t excited enough to change from my trusty GOPRO and also I had the Hero 5 to look forward to.

However when it was released  last year I was extremely disappointed and decided not to upgrade, combine with he whole fiasco surrounding the KARMA Drone, was my love for the action camera maker starting to waiver? yes it was!

Erida Drone a Karma Killer

So next Month or possibly April depending on where you live the all new Yi 4K+ will be released with 4K 60FPS video capabilities, what a way to possibly blow GOPRO out of the market, and early rumours have it being launched at a price of around USD 299 to USD 329 which again puts shame to the price of USD 399 for the GOPRO Hero 5.

Ive done a detailed comparison  below between the 2 cameras below and it is clear that Yi is the clear winner on both specification and price point.

Now on to the Erida Drone

erida

We all know about the KARMA recall and the entire disaster surrounding it, but it has been relaunched and I have to say that as a complete package, of drone, grip and camera it will definitely find its place in the market. But it is a basic drone, however this maybe where its appeal will lie as being something very simple to use.

Now Erida is a completely different animal.

No release details as of yet, it was being crowd funded with the developer Atlas electronics but it was showcased at CES a few weeks ago.

The Yi Erida drone has a carbon-fiber shell, which makes it light but strong. It also has only three rotors, instead of the usual four you see with most drones. The third rotor can swivel to make turn the Erida faster in flight. Like the DJI Mavic Pro, the Erida’s two front arms can fold back for storage, however this drone is a lot larger than the DJI Mavic.

This thing is fast

Company reps said it can reach speeds of up to 120 km/h, about 75 miles per hour. The company claims that it will have a flight time of up to 45 minutes

The camera is attached to a three-axis gimbal, which helps to ensure steady video. The Erida will be controlled using either a smartphone app or a dedicated joystick-style controller. The camera will of course be the amazing Yi 4K+

Early pricing details are around 600 USD and it can be pre ordered at www.gearbest.com at USD 570

This is very exciting times and I cannot wait for these products to be officially available, and I of course will conduct full reviews.

I hope it is not the case but if these products live up to expectations it could be Bye Bye GOPRO

Come on GOPRO step up your game
